Churches in the Field A reflection on Churches servicing rural communities.

For many years the hub of the rural community has been the local church. It was a place of support, both spiritual and practical as well as a place of social interaction, networking, information gathering and of course spiritual connecting.With the improvements in transport, many small churches in rural settings have been closed down as denominations have reduced their responsibilities and expected people to travel to a central church in the next closest town. Prayers that get answered

Say what you feel.  Jeremiah was an amazing bloke. He had an amazing relationship to God and God used him in ways beyond his own comprehension. If we look at his prayers we are shocked. Shocked by the things they say and shocked that God answers his prayers when they are so selfish, so arrogant and so theologically incorrect. But right at the start let me point out, God would rather honest prayer than something theologically correct.  (more…)

I was tossing up about preaching from Philippians or Ephesians in the morning. Early this week I was still tossing it up. I asked myself the usual questions, What does God want me to say to these people from these passages. Then I stumbled across a quote that has become quite popular. What would Jesus do? It stopped me a bit short. What does God want me to say?  Full stop. Not necessarily from these passages, but in general.  The question I had to ask was what would Jesus say to these people?   (more…)
